Corfu joins "Mayors for Peace"

CORFU. The President of ΄Mayors for Peace΄ Kazumi Matsui - Mayor of Hiroshima - formally announced Corfu΄s membership of the organization.
In his letter Mr Matsui welcomed Corfu and said that he looked forward to their participation in the organization's activities, including the 2020 Vision campaign which seeks to eliminate all nuclear weapons by 2020. He said, "We need your help to create a peaceful world without nuclear weapons."
The Corfu Mayor signed Corfu's application to join Mayors for Peace on 1 October 2018 when the Peace Boat docked at Corfu Port during its 3-month world voyage setting off from Yokohama in Japan. There were 1,000 passengers on board including survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Mayors for Peace was founded by the Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki so that no one should ever suffer as they had. Today there are members from 163 countries and regions and 7,735 cities.
