Minister of the Interior: "In a few days there will be an announcement about the splitting up of Municipalities"

The Minister, when asked about his announcement regarding the splitting up of the Municipalities of Lesvos, Corfu, Rhodes, Chios, Samos and Cephalonia and more specifically about when the plan would go ahead, muddied the waters somewhat. On the one hand he said that an announcement would be made in a few days and on the other he talked about having 'consultations' after the local elections.

From the interview with the Minister:

- "You have said that there will only be a few Municipalities that will be split up. Apart from Lesvos, Corfu, Rhodes, Chios, Samos and Cephalonia are there any others on the list? And when will this happen?"

- "At this point we will deal with the obvious cases - which are very few. I am not going to give an answer regarding the cases you mentioned as the last time I did so a big fuss was created...... In a few days we will have announcements to make and will introduce legislation by the end of the year...... There will be only limited intervention now and only where matters are borderline - there will be more complete consultations and reforms following the local elections."
