At its meeting in Cephalonia, the Regional Council was in favour of the proposal to redraw the municipal boundaries in Corfu and Cephalonia. It said, however, that the crucial discussion has to happen at a local level initiated by the local authorities.
The Ministry of the Interior needs to say as soon as possible on what criteria it thinks the redrawing of municipal boundaries should be based and what measures it is considering taking in order to support the new municipalities over their 5-year term.
Time is not on our side, the Council said, and matters need to move forward quickly and efficiently.
