CORFU. The 37-year-old Briton was found hanged early on Thursday morning on the balcony of a rented apartment in Kavos, South Corfu. The evidence indicates suicide.

The police are not treating his death as suspicious and his family has been notified. As reported in the British media, the man is Reece Platt-May, the father of two children who were hit-and-run victims of 53-year-old serial criminal Robert Brown.

Corey and Casper, aged 6 and 2, were rushed to hospital but doctors couldn’t save them. The accident happened in Coventry on 22nd February when Platt-May’s wife was crossing the road with their four children on the way to the park.

Serial criminal Robert Brown had been released from prison just six days before the incident and was driving without a licence and insurance. 53-year-old Brown was also under the influence of cocaine and was driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone when he ploughed into them.

The trial took place three weeks ago and he was sentenced to 9 years in prison, which the family considered too lenient and called on the government to put forward proposals for stricter punishment for drivers causing fatal accidents as soon as possible.

Brown, who pleaded guilty to all charges, was jailed for causing death by dangerous driving and driving when disqualified and without insurance – following his previous release from prison he had been disqualified from driving for 10 year and 6 months.

Speaking on behalf of the family, their lawyer said, “Robert Brown showed complete disregard for the law by driving and because of him we have been condemned to living our lives without being able to see our children growing up, whereas he will be released from prison in a few years and free to continue with his life.”

The boys’ father was last seen in public at Brown’s trial, wearing a Manchester United scarf in remembrance of his sons’ love for football.
