Strong Corfu presence at the Greek diaspora parade in New York

New York, 23 April, 2018. The Pan-Corfu Federation sent us photos of the parade. Emotions ran high at the 197th parade to celebrate Greek Independence, which included the Corfu Societies and Associations.
The historical Pan-Corfu Association and Erikousa, Mathraki and Othono Societies had a strong presence in the 5th Avenue parade.
The Pan-Corfu President and Secretary, Theodoros Doukakis and Vassiliki Bardi, Erikousa President and Vice-President, Abi Fatzio-Maouzakiti and Avgerini Katehi, Mathraki President, Kostas Argyros and Spyros Mastoras and Othoni President, Dimitra Mastora-Katechi all paraded along with the members. The Erikousa Dance Group under Toula Karabini danced in the parade with the Corfu diaspora.

The Corfu Societies float had a picture of the first Governor of Modern Greece, the Corfiot Ioannis Capodistrias and the Philharmonic Bands were highlighted and the title 'The Island of Music' displayed. The young generation of Corfiots was on the float, waving Greek flags. These are youngsters that take part in the societies' dance groups and are they are the ones who are carrying on the traditions and culture of Corfu and the Diapontia Islands.
Also present at the parade of Corfu Societies were Corfu Mayor, Kostas Nikolouzos, the Corfiot New York Greek Consul, Lana Zohiou, the Corfu sculptor, Ioannis Bardis and the President of the Ionian Cultural Federation, Nikos Bardis.
