Corfu takes centre stage in modern aortic surgery

CORFU. For three days, Corfu has become a meeting point for leading vascular surgeons from Greece and abroad, at a new scientific forum symbolically associated with the name of Ioannis Capodistrias.
From September 3 to 5, the Corfu Holiday Palace in Kanoni is hosting the first CICV Meeting, an international scientific gathering dedicated to modern techniques in aortic surgery.
The CICV Meeting is being held for the first time and focuses on so-called Physician Modified Endografts (PMEGs). Put simply, these are specialised endovascular grafts that doctors can customise to meet a patient’s specific anatomical needs, making it possible to treat complex aortic lesions without always requiring conventional open surgery.
The meeting is not limited to theory. Participants will have the opportunity to observe state-of-the-art techniques, take part in hands-on training and discuss real-life cases and experiences with specialists from major vascular surgery centres.
Scientists from Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, India and the United States are taking part in the event. The aim is to exchange knowledge on the latest developments in the treatment of aortic disease and, ultimately, to apply these advances for the benefit of patients.
The CICV Meeting is co-organised by the Corfu Medical-Surgical Society, the Vascular Surgery Unit of the University of Ioannina, headed by Assistant Professor Michail Peroulis, and the Vascular Surgery Department of Ludwig Maximilian University Hospital in Munich, headed by Professor Nikolaos Tsilimparis.
The event is held under the auspices of the University of Ioannina, the Hellenic Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, the Hellenic Angiology Society and Ludwig Maximilian University Hospital in Munich.
The connection between the event and the name of Ioannis Capodistrias carries particular symbolic significance. The Corfiot statesman was also a physician, with an international profile and a strong interest in education. Thus, his birthplace is hosting an international scientific meeting that aspires to establish itself as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and innovation in aortic surgery.
