40th Brindisi–Corfu Regatta: Programme of events at Gouvia Marina, June 8 and 9
CORFU. More than 100 sailing yachts and hundreds of participants are expected in Corfu for the anniversary 40th Brindisi–Corfu Regatta. D-Marin Gouvia is organising a two-day series of events featuring philharmonic bands, traditional serenades, dance groups, and the winners’ award ceremony.
Corfu is preparing to welcome the 40th International Brindisi–Corfu Regatta, one of the most historic offshore sailing races in the Mediterranean, which this year marks four decades of continuous presence. The race will start from Brindisi on June 7 and conclude in Corfu, at Gouvia Marina, where more than 100 boats and hundreds of sailors from various European countries are expected. As part of the anniversary celebrations, D-Marin Gouvia is organising a two-day programme of cultural events on June 8 and 9, open to the public. The events begin on the evening of Monday, June 8 with a crew welcome ceremony hosted by Marina Moschat. This will be followed by a parade and a musical programme featuring the Sinarades Philharmonic Society Percussion Ensemble, Corfu Music School Ensemble, and the Estoudiantina of Corfu. The public will also have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Corfiot serenades (kantades). Gouvia Cultural Society will also take part, presenting elements of local tradition and hospitality. The highlight of the event will take place on Tuesday, June 9 with the official awards ceremony for the winners of the 40th Regatta. Afterwards, Afra Cultural and Educational Society Dance Group will present traditional Corfiot dances in an interactive performance for visitors, while the evening will conclude with seaside music and a DJ set at the marina. The Brindisi–Corfu Regatta, which began in 1986 connecting the coasts of Apulia with the Ionian Sea, is today considered one of the most important international sailing events in the Adriatic and Eastern Mediterranean, combining sport with cultural cooperation between Italy and Greece.
