CORFU. An exploration of knowledge and culture. A multidimensional educational experience.

Corfu 3rd High School Human Rights Groupcompleted a multidimensional educational journey, linking art with the defence of fundamental freedoms.

Amsterdam – Art as a Bridge Between Cultures

The journey began with a “dive” into the world of great creators. Visits to the Rembrandt Museum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the national Rijksmuseum allowed pupils to connect freedom of expression with artistic creation. The group also toured the windmills of Zaanse Schans and the picturesque fishing village of Volendam. Walks along the historic canals of the “Venice of the North” offered an introduction to the distinctive architecture of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Utrecht – At the Source of Rights

The group visited Utrecht University, where they had the honour of meeting with Ms. Tina Stavrinaki (a member of a UN committee). The pupils gained deeper insight into international law, the value of human rights, and contemporary ways of safeguarding them, embracing the motto of striving for a better world.

Brussels – At the Heart of European Politics
The heart of the European Union opened its doors to the 3rd High School.

The group met with Member of the European Parliament Maria Zacharia and Ms. Jenny Papasotiriou, gaining an experiential understanding of European democracy. The visit also included a tour of the iconic Grand Place and a stop at the legendary Manneken Pis.

Leuven & Return

Before beginning the journey home, the group explored the university city of Leuven and travelled through the forests of Wallonia. The trip concluded in Thessaloniki with a final walk through the historic city centre and the customary group discussion, reflecting on and evaluating the valuable experiences gained.
