Olympians and champions in Corfu

CORFU. They came to the island for the celebration of the European School Sport Day.
Corfu came alive with sportsmanship and inspiration as the 12th European School Sport Day was celebrated on the island. The event brought together Greece’s top athletes, including Olympians, world champions, and renowned coaches.
The ceremony was attended by the Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Yiannis Trepeklis, and the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Isidoros Kouvelos.
Highlights included the “Sports & Ideals: Spyros Samaras – D. Vikelas” event, held at the Saints Michael and George Palace Colonnade. During the ceremony, the Governor and the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee presented honorary awards to the country’s celebrated Olympians and world champions.
Adding a musical touch, the Corfu Choir Union performed the Olympic Anthem, conducted by Andreas Gousis and accompanied on piano by Marilena Eloul, creating a truly inspiring atmosphere for all attendees.
The Ionian Islands Regional Authority donated 1,600 footballs, basketballs, and volleyballs to the islands' schools.
