CORFU. For the second year running, the Blessing of the Water took place at the Church of Ipapantis in the parish of Agion Panton, Gouvia.
Blessing of the Water in Corfu Town this morning
CORFU. Defying the low temperatures, several brave swimmers dived into the sea this morning in an attempt to retrieve the cross and obtain the blessings.
Damage to water pipe – Kyprou St. flooded
CORFU. Yet another pipe in Corfu’s outdated water supply network suffered damage, causing problems for residents.
Where the ‘Blessing the Water’ ceremonies will be happening tomorrow in town and around Corfu
CORFU. For the Epiphany tomorrow, 6th January, the ‘Blessing the Water’ ceremony will take place in town at the Old Port by the Café Yiali at 12 midday.
Complaint registered by The Ark – Two dogs shot in Potamos and Triklino
CORFU. The Ark registered an official complaint yesterday, 4th January, that two dogs had been shot in Potamos and Triklino.
Lower Square (Liston) flooded
CORFU. Even several hours after Thursday morning’s heavy downpour, the Lower Square in Corfu Town is still full of water.
Road becomes a ‘swimming pool’!
CORFU. This morning’s heavy downpour once again led to the flooding of the road next to the National Sports Centre.
Blessing of the Water at Gouvia
CORFU. For the second consecutive year, the parish of Agion Panton in Gouvia will be holding the ceremony of the ‘Blessing of the Water’.
Earthquake early Thursday morning near Cephalonia
ARGOSTOLI. There was an earthquake of 4.1 Richter (as recorded on the European EMSC) at 2.15am this morning in the sea not far off the western coast of Cephalonia.

Attempts to prevent a fig tree from destroying the wall above the Kontra Fossa
CORFU. Some Corfu residents, who love the fortress, the island and its monuments, took the initiative today of trying to limit the growth of a fig tree in the wall opposite the Old Fortress.
Water from burst pipe spreads to Voulgareos St.
CORFU. Water from a pipe which had burst in Old Town Hall Square this morning (Sunday 31st) spread as far as Voulgareos St.
