Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos talks to Corfu Diaspora in New York

The Mayor described what was happening in their 'homeland' to members of the Corfu diaspora at a special event at the Sheraton Hotel in Queens, Long Island.

According to the Corfu journalist at the National Herald, Dinos Avlonitis, the Mayor outlined comprehensively and in great detail the problems the island is facing and the efforts that are being made to find solutions. He convincingly described the difficulty the Municipality has in functioning properly due to lack of funds and the rigidity and dysfunction of the overall state structure.

Many of the association representatives who spoke afterwards expressed their understanding of the difficulties that the country in general and Corfu in particular is facing. They seemed to be aware of the situation and expressed their willingness to 
provide assistance and support in tackling the problems. A proposal was made to the Mayor for an elected member from the Greek diaspora in America to be included in the Town Council.
