Central Corfu Municipality appeals to Council of State regarding municipal taxes

CORFU. Municipality decides to assign the case to a specialised law firm in Athens for a fee of €6,800. An urgent decision by the Municipal Committee on Friday. An urgent convening of the municipal council for its approval—ironically—on April Fool’s Day.
The invitation for an urgent meeting of the Central Corfu municipal council, with a single agenda item, is scheduled for April 1st—but it’s no joke. The sole topic concerns the approval of the Municipal Committee’s decision to collaborate with a law firm in Athens, which will represent the central Municipality in its appeal to the Council of State regarding municipal taxes.
In the reasoning presented during the also extremely urgent meeting of the Municipal Committee on Friday, the necessity of working with a specialised law firm was stressed. The acceptance of a fee offer amounting to €6,800 was proposed. The Municipality’s legal advisor, who presented the matter, pointed out that this is "a particularly significant case of a specialised legal nature, critical to the financial interests of our Municipality. Given its complexity, difficulty, and major importance, it requires specialised knowledge and experience for its handling. For these reasons, it justifies the assignment of the case to a second lawyer with expertise in the judicial management of the issue, which our Municipality is facing for the first time before the Council of State."
Finally, the municipal administration filed an application with the Supreme Administrative Court (Council of State) requesting annulment and provisional measures to suspend the execution of Decision No. 4/17-3-2025 of the Article 152 Committee of Law 3463/2006.
