CORFU. The project will last 18 months and is expected to make a significant contribution to improving mobility and social inclusion in the rural and coastal areas of the EU.

(North Corfu Municipality) The Municipality of North Corfu, as the coordinator of the European project GreenMove, is preparing to welcome 34 partners from 16 countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area for a series of innovative activities from February 27 to March 2, at the Almyros Beach Resort & Spa Hotel.

GreenMove, part of the EU’s CERV programme, aims to protect rights and values as enshrined in the EU Treaties and international human rights agreements. The programme promotes citizen participation, enhances social inclusion, and strengthens democratic processes at local, regional, and international levels, aiming to create sustainable, inclusive societies based on the rule of law.

The main priority of the GreenMove project is to strengthen dialogue between public authorities, civil society organisations, and international bodies to improve mobility, reduce pollution, and promote sustainable development in rural and coastal areas.

Main Goals of the Green Move Programme:

  • Exchange of good practices through seminars and workshops.
  • Use of new technologies to promote sustainable urban development.
  • Promotion of gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Enhancement of citizen participation in the democratic life of the EU and local communities.

Within the framework of GreenMove, partners will share experiences and innovative solutions to address climate change and environmental degradation, focusing on the protection of coastal ecosystems and the development of low-emission zones.

About the CERV Programme:

The CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values) programme, which started in 2021 and will run until 2027, aims to strengthen open, democratic, and inclusive societies, promoting the common values of the EU and active citizen participation. Through cooperation and mutual support from civil society organisations, CERV contributes to enhancing European diversity and social justice.

Official Launch of the Project:

The official launch of the GreenMove project will take place on February 27 in Acharavi, with the reception of partners and the beginning of a series of activities that will highlight common challenges and solutions for sustainable development in Europe. The project will last 18 months and is expected to make a significant contribution to improving mobility and social inclusion in rural and coastal areas of the EU.

The initiative of the Municipality of North Corfu:

The Municipality of North Corfu's initiative in the GreenMove programme aims to address the sustainability challenges faced by rural and coastal areas in Greece, the EU, and the countries participating in the CERV programme. With the primary goal of promoting sustainable development, the GreenMove initiative aims to create models for sustainable urban development that can serve as benchmarks for other regions facing similar challenges. The Municipality of North Corfu contributes to this change by developing and implementing innovative solutions for sustainable coastal and rural development.
