Large turnout for general strike
CORFU. The demonstrators gathered outside the Workers΄ Centre.
Corfu unions and associations of participated in the general strike of November 20th.
They gathered at the Workers' Centre at 11:00, from where a march was planned to take place through the central streets of the town.
A large crowd protested against the high cost of living, against the war in the Middle East and Greece's involvement, as well as in defence of trade union activities. The demonstrators are also calling for wage increases and the reinstatement of the holiday bonus, among other demands.
Among those participating in the march were the Workers' Centre, PAME union (Communist), the Secondary Education Teachers' Union (ELME), the Public Employees' Union (SEPE), the Corfu Branch of ADEDY, the Federation of Agricultural Associations of Corfu, the Association of Licensed Guides, the Association of Corfu Pensioners, the Corfu Union of Private Sector Employees, Women's Groups from Central and Northern Corfu, student associations and others.
