Greek PM in Corfu: "Closer and closer to Europe"

Corfu is also in the spotlight In the final stretch of the pre-election campaign ahead of the European elections, with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visiting yesterday evening for the customary meeting with the representatives of Local and Regional Authorities, but mainly for the communications ritual with the public and party members.
The series of visits began on Thursday with Deputy Minister Irini Agapidaki, who focused primarily on Health Centres, and yesterday morning, the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, also arrived.
Immediately after his arrival, the Prime Minister met with Regional Governor Yiannis Trepeklis at the new headquarters of the Ionian Islands Regional Authority, in the renovated Old Courthouse building. The Prime Minister also visited the Church of Saint Spyridon, accompanied by government MP Stefanos Gikas and the Regional Governor.
Greeting and conversing with the people of Corfu, the Prime Minister then headed to the historic San Giacomo Old Town Hall to meet with the Mayor of Central Corfu, Stefanos Poulimenos, and the Deputy Mayors.
The schedule of the pre-election campaign also includes visits from Deputy Minister of Shipping Yiannis Pappas and Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni.
Mitsotakis: "Closer and closer to Europe"
In his speech to the residents of Corfu the Prime Minister stated the commitment that the government is preparing to equip school classrooms with 36,000 interactive boards funded by the Recovery Fund. '"Let's go forward in strength, all together, for a great victory of New Democracy in the European elections," he said. "A victory that will bring Greece closer and closer to Europe." He also praised the decisive role of the EU in strengthening Greece's positions on national issues.

Referring to the cost of living, he pointed out that "the answer ultimately lies in higher pensions and better salaries."
