CORFU. No interest was expressed by any bidder.

The second attempt by Piraeus Bank to auction the property of the historic Desyllas industrial complex fell through as well.

The second auction, which took place today as scheduled, closed at noon without any interest being expressed by bidders.

Developments now move to Central Corfu Municipality, which is keenly interested in acquiring it for historical and civic reasons.

Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos recently told Enimerosi that the majority of the municipal team is positive about the matter and believes that the Municipality should make every possible effort within its objective capabilities to acquire the property.

Given its dire economic situation, however, the only alternative is financing from the Deposits and Loans Fund. As Stefanos Poulimenos reports, the legal service has given a positive opinion on the possibility of financing, but with the prohibition of participating in the auction.

"Hence, the Municipality is prohibited from bidding on the property in the second auction on February 21," the Mayor had told Enimerosi. "Only if that also proves unsuccessful, then the Municipality can negotiate directly with Piraeus Bank."
