CORFU. Stumbling block for the loan agreements is the need to submit the last three balance sheets. Matters need to proceed quickly.

The Municipality services need to move swiftly for the acquisition of the historical property of the Desyllas Factory, as interest remains high. In response to a question from municipal councillor Giorgos Karydis during the first accountability session held on Monday night, Central Corfu Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos gave updates on the actions the Municipality has taken to date.

The Municipality's legal services have clarified that the Municipality is not allowed by law to participate in an auction, so the only alternative is direct negotiation for the purchase.

As the Mayor pointed out, to secure the amount required for the property purchase, the Municipality will need to be financed by a credit institution. According to initial calculations, the interest-bearing installments will be approximately 600,000 Euros for a ten-year loan or 500,000 Euros for a twelve-year loan.

However, a stumbling block is the condition set by the bank that the balance sheets of the last three years must be submitted, which have not been prepared or approved by the Municipal Council. Stefanos Poulimenos stated that he has instructed the financial services to resolve this outstanding issue as soon as possible to facilitate the loan agreement.

The property has been auctioned twice by Piraeus Bank, with no interest shown. The starting price was 8.2 million Euros, and subsequently, the price will drop to 80%. If there is still no interest, then the starting price may drop to 65%.
