Fire Service urges caution as weather conditions are extremely dangerous

CORFU. We are now in the fourth month of the fire season, and conditions are expected to be EXTREMELY dangerous in the coming days.
The Ionian Islands Regional Fire Service reminds the public that the fire season in Greece runs until 31 October. We are now in the fourth month of the fire season, and conditions are expected to be EXTREMELY dangerous in the coming period. The public is strongly urged:
- To exercise extreme caution and avoid any outdoor activity that could cause a fire.
- To consult their local Fire Service authorities regarding prohibited and/or permitted activities and work in outdoor areas, subject to specific conditions and requirements; the prescribed fire-protection measures and equipment; the fire-risk category, according to the daily fire-risk forecast map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection; as well as any other relevant information.
- To follow relevant announcements concerning wildfires on the Fire Service website at www.fireservice.gr.
- To seek self-protection guidelines concerning the dangers of wildfires on the website of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection at www.civilprotection.gr.
It is also announced that, until the end of the fire season, extensive inspections and patrols will be carried out to prevent the outbreak and spread of fires, as well as to ensure compliance with the provisions of Fire Service Regulations, concerning the determination of measures and equipment for the prevention and avoidance of fires in forests, woodland, grassland and agricultural areas, parks and urban groves, protected areas, other locations in the vicinity of such areas, as well as undeveloped plots of land.
