Ban on movement in forest areas due to very high fire risk
CORFU. Both pedestrians and vehicles are prohibited from certain high-risk areas from 08:00 (27/7) to 08:00 (28/7).
According to the Fire Risk Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr), the fire risk for Corfu tomorrow, Thursday 27 July, is very high (Level 5).
The responsible government services involved, as well as the Ionian Islands Regional services, are on high alert in order to deal immediately with any case of fire.
By decision of the Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu Kostas Zorbas, on 27 July both pedestrians and vehicles are prohibited to move, cross or stay in the following high-risk areas from 08:00 to 08:00 (the next day):
(a) Cedar forest (Lake Korission), Agios Mathaios Forest and Arkoudilas in South Corfu Municipality
(b) Mon Repos, Lazaretto Island, Vidos Island and Pontikonisi Island in Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality and
(c) Erimitis, Panagia, Agios Nikolaos and Antipaxos in Paxos.
The Corfu Police Department, the Corfu Fire Service and the Corfu Central Port Authority are responsible for the implementation of the above decision.
