CORFU. Protest rally at the hospital to prevent the privatisation of health sector.
The medical community is protesting against the Health Ministry's secondary healthcare bill.
Representatives of both private and public sector unions participated in the protest rally at Corfu Hospital today as part of the nationwide protest.
Public Health Centre unions (EGESYK (Corfu Public Hospital Doctors' Union), Psychiatric Department Union, Union of Hospital Employees), Corfu Medical Association, ADEDY (Civil Servants' Union), Corfu Workers Centre and ELME supported the protest and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the bill, in order not to degrade public hospitals and not to make public health even more expensive.

They are also participating in the three-hour work stoppages announced by the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees, OENGE, ADEDY and the Labour Centre.
These reactions have been caused by the article of the bill abolishing the exclusive contracts of public hospital doctors, allowing them to also work in the private sector.

The following were present in the protest at the hospital: the councillors G. Kaloudis, Maria Dri and K. Grigoriadis, Yiannis Borbotis and Babis Haralambous from KKE, Giorgos Raidestinos from LAE, the Corfu SYRIZA coordinator Christos Moraitis, Maria Gonidi from the Panhellenic Medical Association, the President of the Corfu Medical Association Dimitris Kaloudis, Petros Argitis and Nikos Polyzos from EGESYK, the President of Corfu Hotel Employees Union Stamatis Pelais, the Corfu ELME President Achilleas Kapetanios, the Corfu Hospital Employees' Union President Dina Ioannou, the President of the Hospital's Psychiatric Department Employees Union Mr. Papatsoris, the Corfu ADEDY President Mr. Christodoulou, as well as hospital employees.
