Meropi Ydraiou inspects road resurfacing work

CORFU. Meropi Ydraiou: "The road network has a lot of problems, but the damage is gradually being fixed."
Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality is carrying out an extensive programme of road resurfacing in the town and other districts.
Mayor Meropi Ydraiou visited several of the spots where work is being carried out, starting with the resurfacing of Kolokotroni St. from the Courthouse to the prison and the 3rd-4th Junior High School. The road had been in dreadful condition for years.
With funding of €4.6m from the Public Investment Programme the Technical WOrks Department is also resurfacing the Asteroskopio road (Kalogries) and in the next few days will start work on Theodorou Desylla St. and Athinagora Kavvada.
The Mayor also visited several local communities where road resurfacing is being done. Work has already been done in Viros and Kastellani (Briamaki) as well as the road from Kato Garouna to Agios Gordios, in Kouramades, Varipatades (from Vassilaki Estate to Mantaliada), Kamara, Gastouris and Ag. Prokopiou and the resurfacing of the road in front of the primary school in Alepou has also been completed.
The Municipality has already come to an agreement with companies that carry out work (such as DEI and OTE) that their work is completed before the road is surfaced in order to avoid the phenomenon of repeatedly digging up the roads.
"Our efforts will continue. The municipal road network has a lot of problems, but the damage is gradually being fixed," said Ms. Ydraiou.
