CORFU. Citizens are not responsible for the creation of all these small rubble dumps - the local government is.
The leader of the Kerkyra Psilla party Spyros Neratzis recorded the conclusions from the Panhellenic ECD Waste Recycling System's (ANAKEM) recent action.
Spyros Neratzis' statement:
ANAKEM told us very discreetly and kindly the following at the clean-up of the rubbish and rubble dump in Ag. Ioannis on Friday 18 November:
1. Citizens are certainly not responsible for the creation of all these small rubble dumps. In order to avoid their creation, the Municipality should provide a solution which is simple and in accordance with the law - recycling of the excavation, construction and demolition waste. And of course, the Municipality should apply the same solution to the waste produced by its own services, as well as those collected through its bulky waste collection service.
2. The rational management of excavation, construction and demolition waste, apart from the environmental benefits, also has many economic benefits. Our Municipality is currently sending all the materials collected through the 15601 service outside Corfu, burdening other towns' environment at a cost of much more than €200 per ton, while it could be managed with respect for the environment and at a cost of no more than €30 per ton!
3. The local government should implement the legislation in force since 2010! Finally, however, following the delay of the contract for the Yialinas building restoration, due to the non-compliance of our Municipality with the existing legislation, we see that there is hope and that we are starting to operate as a state that respects and applies the laws and rules that we ourselves have established.
It is known that the technology, legislation, financial resources and collective recycling systems have provided the solutions and ways through which one can do what they want, as long as they know what they want to do and of course their planning is based on these tools!
