North Corfu residents embrace Smile of the Child΄s medical and dental check-ups

CORFU. 948 medical and dental check-ups were carried out on 328 children.
The Smile of the Child's action lasted for 10 days and was completed on Thursday 27 October. During this period, 948 medical and dental check-ups were carried out on 328 children.
Under the aegis of North Corfu Municipality, The Smile of the Child collaborated with Corfu Medical & Dental Association, Corfu General Hospital, the 6th Regional Health Authority, the Ionian Islands Primary and Secondary Education Departments and OPAP.
Information, prevention and early diagnosis play a particularly important role in the effective treatment of a disease or injury and the promotion and safeguarding of health.
The Smile of the Child used its 'Ippokratis' Medical mobile unit, which was located in Acharavi Town Hall Square. There were volunteer doctors, dentists, eye specialists and ear, nose and throat specialists from Corfu Medical & Dental Association, along with the charity organisation's own specialists and doctors from Thessaloniki and Athens. 328 children and teenagers were examined for free.
All children and the people accompanying them were informed about the state of their oral and physical health and the importance of prevention.
The North Corfu Municipal Authority thanked The Smile of the Child, the organisation's specialists, the volunteer doctors, those who contributed to the implementation of the programme and all the bodies that participated, hoping that it will set an example for similar joint initiatives in the future. Social contribution in these difficult times is valuable, especially when it comes to meeting the health needs of our children.
The Deputy Mayor for Circular Economy, Environment, Social Policy and Public Relations Spyridoula Kokkali Social stated the following:
"This action is part of our ongoing efforts for social policy in order to promote the importance of health prevention and familiarise children from an early age with doctors and examinations so that they will take care of their health. Our aim is to also make sure that everyone has access to these services, thus eliminating all socioeconomic and other forms of exclusion".
