CORFU. The operational specifications must be modernised in line with EU directives.
The Central Corfu Integrated Waste Management Facility is planned to be constructed with a significant increase in funding from the Transport, Environment and Sustainable Development Programme. The original budget of €35m has now increased to €64.7m
The ministry has increased the funding in order to modernise the operational specifications in line with EU directives. There will be greater processing of waste and a significant reduction in residue to be buried - around 10%, as the General Director of the Ionian Islands Solid Waste Management Organisation (FODSA) Theodoros Kardaris told Enimerosi.
The FODSA board is meeting today at 15:00 approve the tender documents (adapted to EU demands and the new legislation for complete processing of organic waste and reduction of residue for burial), so that the invitation for tenders can go out in the near future. This will be the third time that an invitation for tenders will go out following the previous failures due to legal obstacles.
