CORFU. The old water pipe has been replaced and now the repair of the road will begin.
The water pipe in Iasonos and Sosipatrou St. has finally been replaced after about three months of work. Although the project was necessary for the area, it caused great inconvenience to the residents, who often stayed without water for hours, while the road in front of their houses still looks like it had been bombed due to the work that had been carried out.
The member of Corfu DIADEYAK Board Giorgos Armeniakos told Enimerosi that this part of the project has been completed and the road surfacing is expected to follow. Similar work has also been carried out on Athinagoras Kavvadas St. and is expected to continue tomorrow on Iasonos and Sosipatrou St., which will remain closed until the work is completed, probably in two days.
Necessary
The contract for the replacement of the water pipe in Iasonos and Sosipatrou St., which had a €33,973 budget, was signed on 31 January 2022.
The project was deemed necessary, as the previous water pipe was old, resulting in frequent damages. 340 metres of the pipe were replaced.
“The project started just before Easter. However, it was a very difficult one. It involved a complete replacement of the old pipe with a new one. Everyone is now connected to the new network and we do not have any problems with the water,” said Mr. Armeniakos.
As he explained, before the replacement, there were water supply problems in the area due to damage to the old pipe, resulting in households being left without water.
Exasperation
However, the pace at which the work was being carried out, as well as the fact that the residents would often be left without water, caused their exasperation. They would even post on social media about the situation and what they were experiencing, as well as about the roads that looked like they had been bombed.
