ATHENS. The Athanasios V. Botsis Foundation for the Promotion of Journalism will present an award to Christina Gerekou on Thursday 26 May.
The award is the highest honour for Greek journalists and will be awarded by the Botsis Foundation to Christina Gerekou on Thursday 26 May. With her articles both in Enimerosi newspaper and the ΕΝ magazine, she highlighted the large heartedness of the family of 19-year-old Christos Kourkoulos, who died in a road accident in September 2017.
Christos’ parents, Georgia and Nikos, donated his organs, helping many people in Germany, Austria and Thessaloniki to survive.
And, of course, apart from the parents’ gesture, the speedy response of Corfu Hospital under the pressure of time was also greatly significant. Airlifts were organised to transport the organs so that, despite the tears of pain, there was also joy and satisfaction.
The award ceremony will be held on Thursday evening at the Zappeion in Athens, in the presence of the President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou. All of us here at Enimerosi are proud of this achievement!
