Corfu Port Authority training exercise for fire on ship

CORFU. As part of the updating of the Local Emergency Plan.

As part of the updating of the Corfu Central Port Authority's Local Emergency Plan and following a request from the Corfu 1st Fire Station, a fire drill was held yesterday morning on the ship 'Ermis'.
 
The exercise took place in the ship's garage and the "fire" was immediately extinguished by the crew with the coordinated instructions of the captain with good results.
 
At the same time, the ship's permanent fire sprinkler system had been activated. The Corfu Central Port Authority and the Vessel Traffic Management System immediately proceeded to all necessary actions according to the Local Emergency Plan.
 
The Corfu Port Authority (OLKE), the Corfu 1st Fire Station, EKAB, patrol boats and tugs, the Regional and Municipal Civil Protection Services and the Corfu branch of the Hellenic Rescue Team (EOD) were also informed.
 
The Central Port Authority announced that such actions aim to make the passengers feel safer and more confident, to improve maritime safety, as well as to constantly train and educate all personnel that participated in the exercise. "Corfu Central Port Authority's main task remains the cooperation with all bodies involved, in order to ensure the safety of life at sea and the protection of the marine and underwater environment," said the Port Authority.
