Fire Department’s guidelines for fire ban period

CORFU. The fire ban period begins on 1 May and ends on 31 October.
The Fire Department reminded that the fire ban period in our country officially begins on May 1 and ends on October 31 and is strongly suggesting citizens:
- To be particularly careful and avoid any outdoor activity that could cause a fire
- To be informed by the local Fire Services on the measures and the daily fire risk in case of outdoor activities
- To read the information on forest fire prevention available on the website www.fireservice.gr and on the official social media accounts of the Fire Service
- To read the guidelines for self-protection from the dangers of forest fires on the website of the Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection at www.civilprotection.gr. During the fire ban period, checks will be carried out to avoid the start and spread of fires, but also to make sure that all the mandatory fire protection measures are being adhered to, especially when it comes to outdoor activities.
In case of non-compliance there will be fines.
If you see a fire:
- Phone the Fire Department IMMEDIATELY on 199 or the European Emergency Number112 and provide the following information:
1. Your exact location
2. The exact location of the fire and the direction it is moving
3. The kind of vegetation that is burning
- Move away from the area immediately and follow the guidelines of the responsible authorities.
- Do not block access to fire engines.
