CORFU. The Fire Service carried out an exercise this morning with a difficult scenario in the Old Town.
The Regional Fire Chief Dimitris Georganas said that the Old Town is a high-risk area due to the small, narrow alleys and the dense population. Another factor is the difficult accessibility for emergency vehicles due to illegally parked cars.
A small, flexible fire service vehicle with firefighters was used for the exercise and a scenario with the rescue of people on a top floor.
The Regional Fire Chief said that the exercise was part of a three-day extra training that takes place in April for all the fire services in order to determine any weaknesses and ensure readiness and efficiency.
The scenario involved a fire on the fourth floor and the rescue of two people. 18 firefighters took part with six vehicles. The fire hydrants are checked twice a year.
