CORFU. The municipal authority has called a meeting at the Corfu Chamber of Commerce following the latest developments arising from the legal complaint filed by the Old Town Permanent Residents Association. The goal is to identify immediate solutions concerning traffic, deliveries, and safety in the historic centre.

The situation in Corfu Old Town has once again become the focus of public debate following the latest developments stemming from the legal complaint filed by Corfu Old Town Permanent Residents Association. At the initiative of the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, a working meeting on "Accessibility and Safety in the Old Town" is being held today, Monday, 13 July, at 10:00 a.m. at the Corfu Chamber of Commerce.

The initiative comes at a time when tensions over the management of the historic centre have reached a peak. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns about uncontrolled vehicle traffic, difficulties in supplying local businesses, the safety of pedestrians and visitors, and the overall deterioration of daily life within the UNESCO-protected historic town.

The Association's recent legal complaint marks the latest chapter in a long-running dispute, with permanent residents calling for the strict enforcement of existing measures and greater protection for the Old Town from practices that, they argue, endanger both public safety and its historic character.

At today's meeting, participants are expected to discuss options for immediate measures to improve traffic management, access for residents and businesses, and better coordination among the authorities involved. Attention will also focus on whether specific measures or an implementation timetable will be announced, as the issue has now taken on legal dimensions.

The meeting is expected to provide an initial test of whether the municipal authorities, residents, and other stakeholders can reach common ground on one of the most complex challenges currently facing Corfu.
