CORFU. It appears to be escalating into a feud as the Old Town Residents’ Association complains about being excluded from meetings that affect its members.

The  Old Town Permanent Residents' Association of has denounced its repeated exclusion from decision-making processes, following its non-invitation to a meeting on Easter measures, describing it as a deliberate practice that leaves directly concerned parties out of the dialogue.

In its statement, it notes that the meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, with the participation—according to announcements—of “all relevant stakeholders,” and focused on planning measures for the Easter period in the town.

However, the Association of Permanent Residents was not invited to participate, which, as pointed out, is not an isolated incident. “The repetition of this practice can no longer be seen as a mere oversight; it constitutes a deliberate exclusion,” the statement reads.

The Association directly raises questions to the municipal authorities, asking for clarification on the criteria by which permanent residents are not considered a “relevant stakeholder,” even though they are the ones experiencing the consequences of these decisions on a daily basis.

At the same time, criticism is directed at the way the measures are planned, which—once again this year—are limited to the few days of Easter, without being part of a comprehensive and permanent plan for the Old Town.
