CORFU. The volunteers who will take part in the action with their chainsaws will be able to chop the logs and take the wood.

The Municipal Voluntary Work Department in collaboration with the Municipal Department for Urban Greenery, the Corfu Forestry Commission and the Corfu Inspectorate of Antiquities are organising an action for the removal and utilisation of fallen and dangerous wood logs from Vidos Island. The aim is to get to know the natural and historical wealth of Vidos, to strengthen the citizens' relations, as well as the relations between citizens and local government, to actively involve our fellow citizens in the beautification of public spaces and to use the wood as fuel for the benefit of citizens.

Citizens, voluntary groups, associations and organisations can take part as volunteers.

Volunteers who will take part in the action with their chainsaws will be able to:

- chop the logs indicated by the responsible persons,

- collect the chopped logs at a specific storage point,

- load and transport them in their own vehicle with a ferry boat chartered by the Municipality.

The Municipality will provide the volunteers with:

- transportation to and from Vidos,

- gasoline and oil for their chainsaws,

- ferry boats to transport their vehicles from Vidos to Corfu.

The work will start at the end of April and will last until November 2022 or until all wood logs are removed. Those who have their own means of sea transport can start immediately following consultation with the responsible persons.

Volunteers will arrange the days and times that the work will be carried out with the people in charge so that everyone is served.

The available days and times are the following:

- Monday, Wednesday, Saturday from 14:30 to sunset

- Sunday from 8:00 to sunset

- Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 13:30

The transportation of vehicles by ferry boat will take place when a sufficient number of wood is collected and on a Sunday or another day following consultation.

Volunteers will participate with their names, whether they are by themselves or members of an organisation, association or group.

All interventions by volunteers will be made following suggestions from those responsible for the action and who will be present on the days and at the times that the action will take place.

It goes without saying that for all interventions, the indications and all the necessary permits have been given by the responsible bodies.

During the implementation of the action, it is possible to organise parallel activities of beautification and guided tours in Vidos Island.
