΄Creative Activities΄ begins today on Vidos with 130 children

On Monday morning, the island of Vidos was filled with children's voices, as the "Creative Activities" programme for this summer commenced.

It took place at the predetermined time announced by the municipal authorities, which was Monday, June 17, immediately after the end of the school year.

130 children aged 6 to 13, who are participating in the programme, were transported to the lush island free of charge by private boat.

The children were accompanied by the Deputy Mayor responsible for Cleaning Services and for Vidos, Spyros Neratzis, as well as by 10 staff members hired to support the programme, which will run until September 10.

A total of 290 applications from interested parents and guardians have been submitted and approved for the programme, and applications can still be submitted.

Mr. Neratzis told Enimerosi that the staff will be reinforced with additional personnel starting from Monday, June 24, and 16 positions of various types will also be re-advertised.

He also pointed out that this year the programme starts earlier than ever, right after schools close, setting a record. Last year, it started on August 1, while in other years, it began in mid-July.

The programme (8:30 am - 3:30 pm) aims to entertain children and help them socialise through their participation in sports, artistic educational activities, and to support families during the summer when schools are closed.

Corfu 6th Junior High School has been designated as the point of arrival and departure for the children.

Summer camp

Regarding the camp programme, he stated that so far only one person has been found for overnight stay, however, efforts have not been abandoned. He said that the facilities are ready to accommodate the young campers, but finding personnel is a prerequisite.
