CORFU. Potamos residents were unable to present their demands to the Ionian Islands Regional Governor.
Continuing their protest, Potamos residents gathered at the bridge this morning asking for their demands to be met.
The residents then marched to the Regional Administration office in Alykes to meet with the Regional Governor. They requested a meeting so that they could present their demands but were told that Ms. Kratsa wasn't there.
Feelings ran high amongst some of the residents but the document wasn't presented and a meeting was arranged for Wednesday morning at 10:00.
Residents are demanding a new bridge allowing access to their homes and school, immediate cleaning of the river, support for the banks to avoid future disasters and 100% compensation for homes and businesses.
Some are demanding that the old bridge be pulled down - causing controversy amongst the residents as it was built in the 19th century and is regarded by many as part of the community's history.
During the recent visit of the Civil Protection Minister to Corfu, Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure Manolis Orphanoudakis said that part of the plans of the Regional Authority is to provide safe access for the residents with a new military Bailey bridge.
