CORFU. Following a decision by the Transport Minister and at the request of Meropi Ydraiou.

Following a request by Mayor Meropi Ydraiou to the Ministries of Infrastructure and Transport and Environment and Energy, the problem that has arisen with the licensing of the car park in the Lower Square has been legally resolved.

The operation of the car park has been extended for 3 years and, if, within the above three-year period, the process for amending the town planning has been initiated, this period can be extended for three additional years, under the same terms and conditions that it has been granted.

In this way, the Ministry says, a solution to the use of the car park has been found which is the same as that for the Historical Centres of Athens and Patras.

In her letter to the aforementioned Ministries, the Mayor stated the following:

“We request the approval of the use of this public space, as a controlled car park. Until the completion of the local planning procedures, which will explicitly allow this use, we request, in particular, your assistance for the use of this car park in the Viktoros Dousmani Square in Spianada (Lower Square) in Corfu Old Town in the Ionian Islands Region to be resolved according to the terms and conditions that apply to the Historical Centres of Athens and Patras in accordance with Article 19(1) of Law No. 4313/2014 (A΄ 261) as in force.”
