8 people arrested in Corfu and Cephalonia for noise pollution

CORFU. Police checks were carried out in Corfu Town, Ipsos, Kavos and Paliki in Cephalonia.

8 people (7 Greek and 1 foreign national) were arrested in Corfu and Cephalonia early on Thursday morning, 19/8, for noise pollution and playing musical instruments outside the allowed times.

In checks that were carried out in Corfu Town, Kavos and Ipsos, the following were arrested:

- Two Greek owners of catering establishments who, it was found by using noise measurement devices, were playing music above the allowed levels and disturbing the peace.

- Two Greek nationals and one foreign national who were the managers on duty at catering establishments for playing musical instruments outside the allowed times.


Three Greek nationals were also arrested at catering establishments in Cephalonia who were playing music above the allowed levels and disturbing the peace.

Checks in tourist areas in the Ionian Islands are intensifying and will continue to do so until the end of summer.

All those arrested were taken to appear before the local Prosecutors.
