76 arrests by Ionian Islands Traffic Police in September
CORFU. 72 were for not having a drivers licence and four for driving under the influence.
The Ionian Islands Police Department has issued data for traffic accidents and violations for September, 2023.
Road accidents
There were eight road accidents in Corfu, Lefkada, Cephalonia and Zakynthos compared to 16 in September, 2022.
- 1 fatal road accident compared to none in 2022
- 3 serious accidents compared to 2 in 2022
- 4 accidents with minor inuries compared to 14 in 2022
In all the aforementioned accidents, 10 people were injured compared to 25 in the same month last year.

- 4 serious injuries compared to 2 in 2022
- 5 minor injuries compared to 23 in 2022
The main causes of road accidents were as follows:
• driver distracted
• violating right of way
• not maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles
• speeding
• running red lights
• driving on wrong side of road

• 60 driving under the influence
• 414 speeding
• 484 without crash helmets
• 73 without seat belts
• 39 using a mobile phone while driving
• 57 driving on the wrong side of the road
• 16 running red lights
• 11 dangerous driving
• 173 driving without a licence
• 44 γuninsured
• 79 without MOT
There were 56 offences of parking in special needs spaces.
There were 76 arrests, of which 72 were for not having a valid licence and 4 for driving under the influence.
