CORFU. South Corfu Association for the Protection of Natura Areas has put up signs in the area.

The two signs have been put up help protect the environment and provide information to residents and tourists about the area, which is part of the Natura 2000.

The signs provide information about the flora and fauna in and around Korission Lagoon as well as the Issos and Halikouna coastal areas.

They point out what is forbidden according to the laws that apply to Natura 2000 areas:

- No wheeled vehicles are allowed beyond the Issos car park apart from the Halikouna dirt road.

- Noise pollution, fires and dumping of rubbish are forbidden.

The Association says: "Some of these should go without saying, but it is our experience, unfortunately, that the public is not properly informed. Many believe that they can go with their 4x4s right up to the sea!

Let us all, in whatever way we can, pass on the information on these signs, which our association has carefully constructed, so that maybe we can reduce the problems created by some people who don't respect these areas which they are allowed to visit."
