CORFU. The lights will be switched off in public buildings and other parts of town from 20:30 to 21:30 on Saturday 27 March.
Earth Hour is the WWF global campaign to raise awareness and this year takes place from 20:30 to 21:30 on Saturday 27 March, when millions of individuals, groups, organisations, businesses and communities around the world will symbolically switch off their lights for an hour, sending a loud message for the urgent protection of our planet and its unique biodiversity.
2021 is another critical year for the planet and humanity. Along with the battle with the pandemic, decisions will be taken by world leaders on climate, sustainable development and nature preservation that will define our future and the future of the planet.
This year, despite the adversities, we have a unique opportunity to influence developments in the right way. To demand brave decisions that will lay the foundations for a healthy future where humanity and nature will thrive.
Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality supports these efforts and is taking part for the eleventh year in a row in this effort to protect the planet and calls on everyone on the island to do the same and switch off the lights at home for an hour.
Lights will be switched off for an hour in in public buildings and other parts of town which are the responsibility of the Municipality from 20:30 to 21:30 on Saturday 27 March.
1. Municipal lighting
- In the area Capodistriou St, Agios Spyridon, Campielo, Psaradika, Porta Remounda
- Upper and Lower Squares including Liston
- 'Bosketo' flower garden
- Alexandras Ave and Eleftheriou Venizelou (shore road between Anemomylos and Garitsa)
2. Public buildings
- Old Town Hall
- Maraslio Town Hall
- New Fortress
3. New Fortress
4. Old Fortress and Palace of St. George and St. Michael (in conjunction with the Archaeological Services)
