Central Corfu Municipality taking part in Earth Hour

Earth Hour
21 Mar 2024 / 16:32

CORFU. The Municipality will be turning off the lights for one hour in buildings and landmarks in the town on Saturday, March 23rd.

(Central Corfu Municipality Press Office) For the eighteenth year running, Earth Hour is WWF's largest global participatory campaign for environmental protection, and at the same time, an open call to all of us to remember the value of nature in our lives and the importance of participating in its preservation.

This year we celebrate Earth Hour on Saturday, March 23rd at 8:30 p.m.! For exactly one hour, landmarks, important monuments, members of the public and businesses around the world will symbolically turn off their lights, highlighting the urgent need for the protection of our common home!

After a year characterised by devastating wildfires in our country, with the assessment of burned areas totaling 1.7 million stremma, this year's Earth Hour focuses on the need to protect our forests and reminds us of their great importance to our lives. That's why we call on all the public to turn off our lights for one hour and dedicate these 60 minutes to reflect again on the value of our forests for our lives and our planet!

On Saturday, March 23rd at 8:30 p.m., turn off your lights for one hour and imagine yourself walking through our rich Mediterranean forests! Use your imagination to see all the animals, birds, and insects for whom our forests are home!

Let yourself be surrounded by the rich scents of plants and touch with your hands the leaves and trunks of the trees. Our forests are an integral part of our lives, they belong to us, and they deserve to be a part of us.

The Municipality of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands supports such efforts, contributing this year by turning off the lights – for one hour – in buildings and landmarks of the town, the management of which is the responsibility of the Municipality, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
