CORFU. Meropi Ydraiou said the meeting was successful with "cooperation and agreement".
On the initiative of Mayor Meropi Ydraiou a meeting was held this morning at the Town Hall about road safety in the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality. All the involved authorities were present and considered the necessary meeting to have been constructive and of benefit to the public.
The focus was on the involvement of all the bodies represented at the meeting in road safety and education and the following were agreed upon:
1. Close collaboration between the Road Safety Institute, the Municipality and the Regional Education Department for educational seminars in schools every year focussing on precautions and the avoidance of accidents.
2. Advancing the town bypass project. Updating and completing the study and a 3-day planning meeting with Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality, the Regional Administration and the Ministry of Infrastructure in order to move forward.
3. Replacing Municipal and Regional lighting with LED bulbs for better quality and less damage and deterioration.
4. Improving road signage and surfacing.
5. Reopening the Traffic Education Park after the lockdown for both children and the general public to learn basic road safety.
6. Ongoing maintenance work concentrating on danger spots and schools in collaboration with the Traffic Police.
7. Extensive road surfacing work with the collaboration of the Municipality and the Regional Authority on 35 municipal roads plus the main roads over a two-year period.
8. Collaboration between the Municipality and the Regional Authority in cleaning up and cutting grass on the main roads.
Along with Mayor Meropi Ydraiou also present at the meeting were the Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros, Deputy Mayor for Everyday Life Haris Yiotis, Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu Melita Andrioti, Deputy Regional Governor for Technical Works & Infrastructure Manolis Orfanoudakis, Traffic Polce Chief Konstantinos Vlachopoulos and Head of the Regional Education Department Petros Aggelopoulos.
At the end both Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and Deputy Regional Governor Melita Andrioti said that the meeting had been useful and constructive. Ms. Ydraiou went on to say that cooperation and agreement can only lead to a positive outcome for the common good.
