ATHENS. PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis is today presenting the agreement with Microsoft along with the company΄s President Brad Smith.
PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis will today be presenting Microsoft's €1bn investment in Greece along with the company's President Brad Smith.
The venue for the presentation is the Acropolis Museum - both to symbolise the union of the past with the digital future and because images will be going around the world due to the investment from the technological giant. The government is attaching special significance to the fact as it will help to attract other large investments at this difficult economic time due to the pandemic.
It is said that the agreement will see the establishment of a significant section of the company's technological infrastructure in Greece, including cloud services. The aim is to create a Data Centre in Athens which will serve Southeast Europe.
The Greek Parliament recently voted for the Digital Governance Code, which means that the Greek State will be using cloud services exclusively from 2022.
The same sources say that talks have been going on for a long time. The Prime Minister met with Mr. Smith at the World Economic Forum in Davos last year and the Microsoft President later visited Athens and the agreement was finalised just a few days ago.
