High fire risk in Corfu on Tuesday 1 September

Warning from Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Civil Protection that from midnight on Monday 31/8 until midnight on Tuesday 1/9 the island will be a Level 3 fire risk.

The Civil Protection Service stresses that everyone should take extreme care.

If you are outdoors

- Don't burn rubbish or dry grass and branches.
- Don't light outdoor grills/barbecues in wooded areas or areas with dry grass.
- Avoid jobs that could cause fires (e.g. welding or using tools that cause sparks).
- Don't throw away lit cigarettes.
- Don't leave rubbish in woods. There is a danger it may catch fire.

If you see a fire

Phone the Fire Department IMMEDIATELY on 199 or the European Emergency Number 112 and provide the following information:

- Your exact location
- The exact location of the fire and the direction it is moving
- The kind of vegetation that is burning

Please note you can call 112 even if you don't have a signal or a card in the mobile.
