6 businesses in Corfu and Zakynthos fined and temporarily closed

CORFU. Four business owners in Corfu and two in Zakynthos were arrested and fined.

Stiff fines are being imposed for violation of COVID measures in the Ionian Islands, both on business owners and members of the public not wearing masks.

Checks are being carried out by special teams to ensure that the measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus are being adhered to.

Between Monday 17th and early this morning, Thursday 20th, 6 owners of catering establishments were arrested.

Corfu

- One arrest early on Tuesday morning (18/8) for staying open after midnight. A fine of 10,000 Euros was imposed and the business closed for three days.

- Two arrests early this morning (20/8) for staying open after midnight. Fines of 10,000 Euros were imposed and both businesses closed for three days.

- One arrest today (20/8) for violation of the measure regarding number of customers per square metre. A fine of 15,000 Euros was imposed and the business closed for two weeks.

Zakynthos

- One arrest early on Wednesday morning (19/8) for staying open after midnight. A fine of 10,000 Euros was imposed and the business closed for three days.

- One arrest for allowing standing customers. A fine of 3,000 Euros was imposed and the business closed for two weeks.

Fines for not wearing masks

44 fines of 150 Euros for not wearing masks were imposed in Corfu, 5 in Zakynthos and 4 in Cephalonia.

Charges were brought against the six business owners, which will be passed on to the respective Prosecutors.
