Firefighters remain on the alert in Erimitis

The fire which broke out on Sunday evening was finally brought under control on Monday. Due to the thick vegetation, high temperatures and winds that are expected in the next few days, firefighters are remaining on standby with at least seven vehicles so as to deal immediately with any new fire breakouts.

The Fire Department measured the area yesterday and it was confirmed that 130 stremma had burnt - whereas the initial estimate while the fire was still burning had been 200 stremma.

A team from the Arson Crimes Investigation Department is now in Corfu to conduct an investigation into the possibility of arson.
