Increased fire risk in Corfu - Access to certain areas prohibited

CORFU. On Tuesday, July 8, the risk of fire is forecast to be High (Category 3).

The Regional Unit of Corfu announces that, according to the Fire Risk Forecast Map of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection for Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the fire risk is forecast to be High (Category 3).

The involved state services and the services of the Regional Unit of Corfu are on heightened civil protection alert, in order to respond immediately to potential fire incidents.

There will be a ban on the passage, stay, and movement of persons and vehicles from 13:00 to 23:59 on the same day in forest ecosystems, NATURA areas, parks, and groves in the following locations:

Municipality of South Corfu

  • Issos Cedar Forest (Korission Sand Dunes)

  • Agios Matthaios Forest

  • Arkoudilas

  • Theofylaktos area (Local Community of Pavliana)

Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands

  • Lazaretto Island

  • Kombitsi

  • Agioi Deka

  • Stavros

  • Agios Panteleimon (Local Community of Kato Garouna)

Municipality of North Corfu

  • Porto Timoni

Municipality of Paxos

  • Erimitis

  • Panagia and Agios Nikolaos Islets

For each violation of the above restriction, an administrative fine of €300 will be imposed.

The ban does not apply to:

  • Residents or workers in the above areas, solely for travel to and from their home or workplace

  • Persons travelling on the road network, unless a traffic ban is imposed by the competent authorities

The competent authorities for enforcing the decision and issuing fines are:

  • Corfu Police Department

  • Corfu Fire Department

  • Corfu Forestry Department

Self-Protection Guidelines

If you are outdoors:

  • Do not burn rubbish or dry grass

  • Do not light barbecues in forested areas

  • Do not throw lit cigarettes

  • Avoid activities that cause sparks (grinders, welding)

  • Respect access restrictions

If your home is near a forest:

  • Clear dry grass and leaves within a 10-metre radius

  • Prune trees and remove branches touching the house

  • Remove flammable materials and objects from the area

  • Equip your property with fire extinguishers, water hoses, and a water tank

In case of fire:

Call 199 or 112 immediately, providing clear information about:

  • Your location

  • The exact spot and direction of the fire

  • The type of vegetation burning
