CORFU. Another two Green Spots have opened in North Corfu - one is a joint effort between Kavalouri, Agrafes and Antipernon and the other is in Afionas.

Three North Corfu communities - Kavalouri, Agrafes and Antipernon - have come together in an effort to recycle.

North Corfu press release:

On Sunday 17 May another two Green Spots opened in North Corfu.

In the morning the three communities of Kavalouri, Agrafes and Antipernon opened a joint Green Spot in the former Agrafes playing field.

Present at the opening were North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris, Municipal Council President Panayiotis Papadatos, Deputy Mayor for circular economy Spyridoula Kokkali, the three community presidents Thanassis Martinos, Spyros Provatas and Spyros Merkouris along with local residents who responded to the invitation from the communities to bring their recyclable materials whilst adhering to health regulations (one at a time, social distancing, disposable gloves, masks, use of antiseptic).

The Mayor congratulated the presidents for their collective effort and cooperation and stressed that 'Reduce - Reuse - Recycle' is the only way at this time of economic crisis as it contributes greatly to the reduction of waste volume which in turn will gradually reduce the amount of waste going to landfills and increase the amount of recyclable materials.

In the evening of the same day the Green Spot in Afionas opened in the presence of the community president Aggeliki Leftherioti and with Father Sosipatros Aspitotis giving his blessings.

Attending the opening were Mayor Giorgios Mahimaris and his Municipal colleagues Panayiotis Papadatos, Spyridoula Kokkali and Nikos Mouzakitis as well as deputy Mayor for Cleansing Theofanis Skebris. Locals came with their recyclable materials - again observing all the proper health measures.

"Recycling is a WAY OF LIFE with constant awareness," said Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris, "and is supported by the citizens of Northe Corfu, the academic community, groups, organisations and volunteers." He thanked all those present, who have made recycling a part of their everday life, as well as his colleagues for their contribution to the overall project.
