CORFU. In the area behind the KEP office in Ipsos where there were piles of rubbish last summer which regularly caught fire young children will now be able to play in safety.

A brand new children's playground has just opened in Ipsos for residents and their children to enjoy in complete safety.

The playground is located behind the KEP office, where, over the last two summers at least, there were several incidents of rubbish piles catching fire.

The area had been turned into an unofficial rubbish tip - causing anger and concern amongst local residents.

The President of DOPAP (Municipal Organisation for Culture, Sport and the Environment) Nikos Korakianitis, who was also a Deputy Mayor in the previous local authority, posted photos on social media. The playground is part of the programme of creation and makeover of children's playgrounds in the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality.

The playground in Ipsos hasn't opened to the public yet as it still needs to be inspected by the Municipal Department of Technical Works to ensure it fulfils all the legal specifications.
