ISRANBUL. Spyridoula Karydi won a Gold Medal at the Balkan Indoor U20 Championships in Istanbul - at the same time qualifying for the World U20 Championships in Nairobi in July.

Another Gold Medal for young Corfu athlete Spyridoula Karydi! On Sunday 9 February she won the triple jump at the Balkan Indoor U20 Championships in Istanbul.

Spyridoula, who is trained by Pavlos Skordilis, won the competition with a jump of 13.51m - demonstrating once again that she is one of the top international athletes in her age-group.

Her first two jumps were both 13.43m, the third - the winning jump - was 13.51m and the fourth was 13.21m (which would also have won). She didn't take part in the final two rounds.

In second place was the world U20 champion Aleksandra Nacheva from Bulgaria with 13.10m and Agoz Gimez won bronze with 13.01m.

Spyridoula Karydi, European U20 triple jump champion, was part of a team of 15 Greek athletes in Istanbul. Her jump of 13.51m qualified her for the World U20 Championships in Nairobi, 7 - 12 July.

It should be noted that on February 10 last year Spyridoula also won gold at the Balkan U20 Chanpionships in Istanbul with a jump of 13.25m, which was her personal best at that tiem.
