ATHENS. Just a few hours after the submission of a legislative amendment to overcome obstacles to gaining approval for the elevation survey for the Erimitis investment.

Development Minister Adonis Giorgiades once again hit out at the North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris and said that he was "just messing with us" on Real Fm radio this morning. A few hours later, speaking on ERA Kerkyra radio, he said that the Mayor had assured him on several occasions that approval would be given.

"Because we saw that he was delaying matters, we called him to our office along with the investor in December. He brought a draft of the decision from the technical services and promised that the matter would proceed."

The Minister went on to talk about his "inimitable" performance at the Municipal Council meeting. "He accused his Technical Services of being useless and incompetent and said that the survey was illegal."

Mr. Giorgiades seemed convinced that the majority of the Councillors are in favour of the investment. "Most of the Councillors, when speaking to either myself or the investor, have said that they are in favour of the investment."

Regarding the legislative amendment he said that this kind of tactic is not something new - the SYRIZA Government had used something similar in the case of the AEK football ground in Nea Philadelphia.

"The legislative provision is not specifically for North Corfu," Mr. Giorgiades said. "It was just that the case of North Corfu showed us that we won't be able to have any investments in Greece if the investors think that whatever the Government and the courts tell you, if there is one Mayor with a majority at that time an investment worth hundreds of millions can be blocked."
